Summary
Located in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park, The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice (PPWH) cares for over 1,200 patients and families each year, helping them to cope with a life limiting or life shortening illness and working to provide specialist holistic care and support.
The building carries a weight of seriousness due to the circumstances of the people who arrive. However, a balance of dealing with these aspects and the necessary care provision alongside the social, spiritual and emotional needs of the patients has been comprehensively considered and addressed throughout the design process. This has resulted in a coherent and flexible building typology that offers hope and bereavement support to families.
PPWH is a special place which feels comfortably like home - humble, dignified, unobtrusive, and private when required – and is leading the way in palliative care, transforming the traditional concept of a hospice to providing an exemplar palliative care facility.
