Edinburgh Park’s transition from a business park to a cultural quarter is to take a new turn with plans to erect a stainless steel structure tracking the path of the Gogar Burn.
Subterranean Diversion by Benedict Barbour is the winner of a public competition to decorate the development, taking the form of a 2.4m high circle referencing the culvert pipes through which the burn flows unseen beneath the ground.
Mirroring the form of a bronze age brooch found in the burn the piece incorporates a driftwood trail with wooden fragments marking the route of the watercourse together with seats and climbable structures.
The creative contest was led by developer Parabola who shortlisted four other artists; April Lanniga, Justine Watt, Katie Hallam and Oktavia Schreiner, for the commission.
Barbour is collaborating with art curator Matthew Jarratt and sculpture foundry Pangolin Editions to realise his work.
