Iain Stirling

Comedian Iain Stirling is to bring his trademark wit and vocal talents to a new BBC series as the host of Race Against The Tide.

The six-part craft reality show will follow eight teams of sand sculptors as they race to produce the best beachfront designs before the sea washes away their ephemeral creations.

Produced by Zinc Media on a seven-figure commission, the format has already proven to be a hit overseas and will begin UK production in May for domestic and international consumption, with the US market being a priority.

Mark Browning, chief executive officer, Zinc Media Group, said: “This commission sees Zinc expand into another new television genre.  We acquired this format over two years ago, where it had been a hit on CBC in Canada and we developed it for the UK market.  This has the potential to be a new returning series for Zinc and we are delighted to be making it for the BBC.  Our pipeline of new opportunities is very exciting and we expect to announce further new commissions in the months ahead.”

Stirling is best known as the voice of Love Island UK.
