Summary

Paulina Naruseviciute is an Architect working in BDP’s Glasgow Studio, who’s has made a prominent contribution to many BDP projects, as well as Glasgow’s award-winning schools’ portfolio over the last 9 years.

After gaining her master’s in architecture from The University of Strathclyde in 2015, Paulina’s passion and drive for sustainability led to her co-founding Urban Restart, an art and architecture collective that aimed to activate untapped potential in vacant places and spaces through creative construction methods. Notable projects include ‘Cinema Pneumatica’ an inflatable cinema in the Glasgow Barrowland’s, and a pop-up hotel made from repurposed bathtubs designed to challenge Munich’s rising housing market. These playful interventions instigated perspective on construction materiality and the typical idea of architecture.

Paulina then joined BDP, where her creativity was welcomed in the education sector, and she continued to challenge perceptions of typical learning environments. As a qualified user-research designer, Paulina utilises the methodology of consultations and its valuable data to develop a strong understanding of learners needs, aspirations and issues. Her commitment to continuous development includes further study on how the built environment can shape learners and designing for neurodiversity.

As an Architectural Assistant from 2015-2018, Paulina largely worked on the design and construction for Maidenhill Primary School and Nursery, a project that focused on offering spaces that encourage curiosity and creating a learning landscape enriched with elements of ‘play’. Paulina was involved from Stages 1 through to 5, expertly liaising with the client, design and construction teams to deliver a considerate, sustainable building inspired by its ‘green corridor’ location. The project subsequently received a RIAS Award in 2021.

Post-Qualification, Paulina went on to continue her professional development, and gained valuable, alternative experience working on secondment as part of a multi-disciplinary design team for Stages 4-5 of the BREEAM Excellent, Global R&D Headquarters for AstraZeneca.

Now as Project Architect Paulina has been a core part of the concept design and delivery of Neilston Learning Campus, which has opened its doors in March 2024. Designed to accommodate multiple learning and teaching scenarios, the campus is enriched with stimulating learning zones, a community emphasis and Passivhaus design principles that meet high sustainability targets for its LEIP funding.

Paulina’s consideration across all her projects is testament to her personal values and commitment to sustainable design, and she is well on track for an excellent career in architecture.
