Scott Abercrombie
Associate Director, John Gilbert Architects
Scott is an associate director and head of conservation at John Gilbert Architects. He is a conservation accredited architect with the RIBA, and accredited in interdisciplinary conservation with the IHBC.
His work in practice centres around the themes of conservation, retrofit and adaptive reuse. Whilst recent projects include the conservation of the Gallery of Modern Art and Provand’s Lordship in Glasgow; the adaptive reuse of a church as a climbing centre in Kilmarnock for Above Adventure; and the award-winning conservation and retrofit of the Canongate development in Edinburgh. He was shortlisted for the Scottish Design Awards ‘Young Architect of the Year’ in 2022, and an RIBA ‘Rising Star’ in 2021.
Outside of practice he has just finished a 3-year term as Chair of the Alexander Thomson Society, where he has served as a trustee since 2015. Scott also retains an involvement in the Glasgow Institute of Architects where he recently served a 3-year term as convenor of the conservation committee.
