Our City Chambers

‘Our City Chambers’ is an interactive online experience that uses 3D digital models and animations to help visitors explore the built heritage of Glasgow’s City Chambers.

Through this immersive online resource, visitors can embark on a virtual tour, navigating through meticulously crafted 3D models of the City Chambers with unparalleled detail. Featuring a series of scroll triggered animations, factual and anecdotal details and a 3D animated tour guide the site allows visitors to interact with these details at their own pace.

Designed to support educational objectives encompassing city history, citizenship, and democracy, the project delves into the pivotal role of the City Chambers in Glasgow's development. It celebrates the building itself as a testament to Victorian craft, design, and artistic excellence, fostering appreciation for architectural heritage among future generations. Our City Chambers website aims to inspire curiosity, foster a deeper connection to local history, and ignite a passion for heritage preservation among young minds.

Glasgow’s Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren officially launched the site in October 2023 before 5500 pupils, representing 140 schools, as part of a fortnight of activity to promote the city and civic pride. The resource is now accessible to everyone to explore, use and learn.

The Lord Provost said: “The Our City Chambers website details Glasgow’s rich history, heritage and strong sense of civic pride. Bringing the City Chambers into sharp focus as a place at the heart of civic life. It gave young people,  who may not be aware of its significance or have had the opportunity to visit, an exciting insight into Glasgow’s past, present and future, and captured their imaginations.”

Rachel Kacir, Heritage Manager, Glasgow City Heritage Trust said “This website has accessibility at its core allowing young and old to interact with it equally, all people interested in Glasgow’s historic environment can enjoy this site. It provides a unique opportunity to visit the Chambers without the expense of a physical visit, and provides insight to spaces that are not open to the public and the exquisite detail achieved by SUUM means that this is truly an authentic experience. The project has enabled us to engage with every school in Glasgow, a rare achievement and one we are extremely proud of. ”
