The Langholm Alliance

Summary

The Langholm Alliance is an umbrella community organisation approved by Scottish ministers to oversee the economic regeneration of the southern Scottish town of Langholm. The vision was for Langholm to be an even better place for people to stay, work, and visit. The ambition is that by 2030, Langholm will be a celebrated hub for small business and quality textiles, as well as growing a strong reputation for being a renowned visitor destination with a spectacular natural environment, rich heritage, and quality produce.

Langholm Explore and Discover wanted a rebrand to harmonise the town’s rich history with a modern identity. They needed a versatile visual system that could span digital platforms and printed materials.

The new design needed to encapsulate everything that helps to make the town of Langholm so unique, employing a palette of earthy tones and vibrant accents inspired by local landscapes, with a mix of classic and contemporary typography. The goal was to create a cohesive, inclusive, and emotionally resonant brand narrative.

At the heart of the brand is a profound sense of community. Our goal was to weave together multiple elements, capturing the essence of Langholm’s close-knit community and the unity that binds the town together. We were incredibly lucky to have so many interwoven themes to work with. With keywords such as ‘weave’, ‘knit’, ‘bind’ and ‘link’, it made total sense to draw inspiration from an historic industry that the town itself was built on.

Inspired by Langholm’s rich textile heritage, the colour scheme pays homage to the ‘Muckle Toun Tartan’. This unique palette draws inspiration from the town’s history, events, and geographical features, creating a harmonious representation of what makes Langholm truly special and incomparable.

A suite of digital media templates has allowed community leaders to create new and engaging content that reflects the new brand beautifully.

The brainchild of Creatomatic’s very own Muckle Toun designer, Paul Gardner, we’re delighted with the results of this project. The brand has been rolled out successfully across merchandise, print, uniform, marketing materials and souvenirs and has even been featured in D&G Life magazine. We were over the moon to receive a letter of recognition for the rebrand from Emma Harper MSP following the rollout.

Investment in rural, Scottish communities is something that Creatomatic are proud to be a part of and continue to support.
