Summary

Designed for Rangers Football Club, this exciting new museum celebrates the story of Rangers from humble beginnings in 1872 to its growth as one of the world’s most successful football clubs. The Museum offers a dynamic, immersive experience, with visitor participation and interaction at its heart. The ability of the Museum to attract a wide audience, including day visitors, UK and international tourists, together with football fans was central to the interpretation strategy. The Museum also explores the Club’s wider social and sporting history, extending its appeal.

We were initially commissioned to develop an Interpretation Plan for the new Museum which grew out of the Club’s desire to conserve and display its collection. Much work was done to assess objects and prepare them for display. Working with the Club’s historian, we researched and developed the content for the displays, taking a thematic approach and leading visitors from the Club’s early years, tracing its expansion which mirrored the growth of Glasgow, celebrating the highs, remembering the lows and exploring the stories of its managers, players and fans.

We were responsible for the whole concept from research and copywriting to the experiential exhibition design. We imaginatively interpreted the Club’s brand guidelines translating them to a 3d environment. We developed the digital strategy for the museum and oversaw the content and production of all digital and interactive elements. We also designed the Museum gift shop and wrote and designed the official souvenir guidebook and undertook project management of the Museum fitout.

We wanted the Museum to immediately create a connection with visitors and designed a three-dimensional tunnel which projects into the entrance hall. Forming the entrance to the Museum, this features dynamic film content, lighting effects and a commissioned soundtrack, setting the scene for the experience. We combined the latest in museum tech with beautiful object-rich displays. To cater for families and children we created Broxi Bear’s Museum Trail: eight stations positioned throughout the Museum each provide a clue which visitors can solve, collecting an embossed stamp along the way.
It’s an experience about having fun and visitors can test their footie skills against each other in ‘Play the Rangers Way’, design their own strip, or assemble their ‘Dream Team’. Our Pose with the Players interactive allows visitors to take home a photo of themselves with their own selection of Rangers players as a lasting memento of a great day out.
