150 years of Scottish Football

In 2023, the Scottish Football Association (SFA) celebrated its 150th anniversary, and we were tasked with designing and developing an immersive website that captured the essence of Scottish football and celebrated the incredible history of the SFA.

We took a modern and interactive design approach, incorporating photography, video content and immersive features. Our team created an intuitive user interface with easy-to-use navigation to make it simple for users to find the information they needed.

One of the key features of the website was an interactive showcase of Scottish legends and pioneers, such as Andrew Watson, who was recognised as the world's first black international footballer, and Rose Reilly, who captained the Italian Women's team to lift the Mundialito (or, little World Cup) in '84.

The website also featured the ability for users to relive classic Scottish moments, such as Archie Gemmels' slalom run past the entirety of the Dutch defence at the 1978 World Cup in Argentina or James McFadden unleashing a rocketing left-footed strike from 40 yards in Paris. All of these moments were brought to life with videos, match reports and player profiles.

In addition, we incorporated a fully-featured e-commerce shop selling special edition 150th anniversary products. These unique products, including a 150th anniversary shirt, saw massive demand, and the website was more than successful in handling surges of user traffic, never going down and over-delivering on expectations.

As football is Scotland's biggest spectator sport, we ensured that the website was fully responsive, with optimised layouts for desktop, tablet and mobile devices. Our team made sure that the website met web accessibility standards, such as providing alternative text for images and making the website easily navigable using keyboard-only controls.

We are extremely proud of the work we accomplished in designing and developing the SFA's 150th-anniversary website. The website successfully captured the spirit of Scottish football and celebrated the incredible history of the SFA. By providing users with an interactive and engaging experience, we were able to create a website that served as a time capsule for that momentous occasion.
